Dark Light

Did you know ❓ October is Cyber Security Awareness Month ❗
Keeping with the theme – I will share some tips throughout the month to help you keep safe in our current environment.

In this post, we’ll look at your first line of defence – your password!!

Being the first line of defence, strong and unique passwords or better yet, passphrase help keep you safe from online threats. Some ways to secure your accounts are:

📱 Multi-factor authentication (MFA), or sometimes known as two factor (2FA). This is often a rolling code that accompanies your password, can is handled by an authentication app like Google Authenticator. Some less reliable methods are SMS code verification, or email code verification (we can get into why these are less reliable later).

🖥 Password managers. Do not use the same password everywhere! If you do, when one site is compromised, all your logins are! You want to use unique passwords, ideally randomized with unique characters to make them difficult to guess, or even brute force attack. Password managers help you achieve this.

🙊 Limit what you share online. Social engineering is the oldest form of gaining access to your information, research and taking advantage of your information that can be obtained openly. Limit your online profile, and what information is placed online.

We’ll look at other ways to keep safe next time, in the meantime, change your passwords!

Stay tuned for more…. 📻
